Long ago, The concrete didn't cover the road. Only in the post town or around Japanese castle town, the rock covered the road. So, what happens when they walk in the rain? The kimono will get dirty and muddy. To avoid it, Japanese ladies wear a kimono coat. To show the collar of the kimono, the shape of the collar is square. Once people wear the Michiyuki, they can not show the coordination of an Obi and a kimono. So they show the color-matching with a Michiyuki and a Kimono. The length of Michiyuki is depends on the era. At 1970s, it was around ankle.
